You
travel to Mongolia by train or airplane. The Trans-Siberian
train connects on one end to Europe, goes through
Russia, crosses Mongolia, and connects with China on the other
end.
This
allows many people to visit Russia, Mongolia, and China. Many
groups travel this way starting either in China or Europe.
Also
flights of Korean
Air (mostly for visitors from Americas and Asia),
China Air, Mongolian
Airline, Russia's Aeroflot
(mostly for visitors from Europe) take you to and from Mongolia.
if you are traveling by airplane to Mongolia, you should book
your tickets in as much advance as possible. Flight is the
biggest bottleneck. |

Instead of looking at a list of Mongolia's little known town and city names which you hardly ever heard, just click on the map below.
As long as you know which part of Mongolia you are traveling to, you can click on blue dots in that part of the Mongolia map below. This weather data is provided by satellites, and we, living on the spot, know the weather information and forecast is very accurate! Say, you are traveling to Gobi and starting your trip from Ulaanbaatar where now it may be snowing and cold but the forecast here tells that in Gobi it will be +25°C, you have to believe it because it will be so.
Mongolia's weather is largely dry and changes fast - without inertia- within the day. Temperature difference between day and night is big, up to over 30 degrees Celcius within the day. Due to global climate changes the weather is behaving markedly differently in late years than in the past. In Mongolia in some places the temperature can plummet down to -50 C in winter and in other places go over + 40 C in summer.
- With average 250 clear sky days, Mongolia is one of the sunniest country. In the Gobi, 270-300 days in a year are sunny.
- Annual precipitation: 200-400 mm.
- Average altitude: 1580 m above sea level.
- Highest peak: 4374 m (Mt Huiten, in the westernmost point of Mongolia).
- Lowest location: 560 m (lake Huh, in the eastern Mongolia).
